Kelly Ripa is an Emmy Award winning television host and actress.
Kelly Ripa began her career as an actress in her high school and in local community theater. Kelly Ripa then became a featured regular in “Dance Party USA.,” a teen music program shown in the USA Network.
In 1990, Kelly Ripa grabbed a role in the long-running soap opera “All My Children” where she was cast as Hayley Vaughan Santos. Kelly Ripa became a regular figure on the show, and her role would stay for nearly 12 years, until 2002.
During her time in “All My Children,” Kelly Ripa found another gig on TV, but this time, as a talk show host in the long-running program, “Live with Regis and Kelly.” Kelly Ripa teamed up with Regis Philbin and replaced former host Kathie Lee Gifford.
In September 2003, Kelly Ripa starred alongside Faith Ford in the series “Hope & Faith,” a sitcom where she played the role of Faith, a former soap star who moves in with her sister Hope after her character was killed on her show. “Hope & Faith” stayed on air for three seasons, while she continued to stay as the host of “Live.” In June 2004, Kelly Ripa renewed her contract with “Live,” thus she stayed as the show’s co-host for another five years.
In 2007, Kelly Ripa became the main presenter of the TV Land Awards. That same year, Kelly Ripa said she would take a leave from acting to focus on her job as a host. Kelly Ripa later returned to work as an actress in 2009, when she starred in the children’s show “Electric Company” as private investigator Wednesday Jones. Also in 2009, Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, produced two shows, “Mom Inc.” and “Eat Drink and Be Married.” Both shows were confirmed to be picked up by the TLC network.
Kelly Ripa has played and won $250,000 in the celebrity version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Kelly Ripa donated the proceeds to her chosen charity.
As an actress, Kelly Ripa reaped five Soap Opera Digest Awards for her role as Hayley Vaughan in the drama “All My Children” for the years 1996, 1998 and 2000. Kelly Ripa has also been nominated for eight Daytime Emmy Awards, three of which came for her role in “All My Children” and five for her hosting duties in “Live.” In 2006, Kelly Ripa won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Special for being the co-host of the 2005 “Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade” alongside Regis Philbin and Ryan Seacrest.
